Greetings from the Superintendent!
We have concluded a full month of school and things are going well. Teachers are teaching, students are learning, and the environment at all three buildings seems to be exceptional. October is here, and as usual that means Homecoming is near. October 11- 15 is Spirit Week, and many activities are planned, concluding with the football game on Friday and the dance on Saturday. These events are posted on the district website for everyone to view.
We have signed an agreement with Apollo Construction to make energy efficiency at Waitsburg High School and Elementary School, which is mandated by the state. The great news is that Apollo applies for a state grant for up to six million dollars, and if they get the grant, they do the work and it costs the district nothing. Apollo has over a 95% success rate in the state, as they are working with many small districts on similar energy saving projects. For Waitsburg, it will include improving doors, windows, and anything to do with energy costs, including a new boiler system at WHS. This is great news for our district!
Another cost-saving project has begun, as we are now contracting with Ed Staub and Sons from Hermiston for propane. This is saving more than $2 a gallon from what we were paying.
I hope you and your families are enjoying the fall (my favorite time of the year) and are looking forward to the many fall activities that are offered. Being a farmer in the past, I remember what a relief it was to be done with harvest and begging looking forward to the slower pace of fall and winter. I have greatly enjoyed being here during harvest and continue to enjoy working for you and your children. As always, please feel free to stop by and talk with me at any time. Have a great October!
