Students in Mr. Starring’s 8th grade Robotics class battle robots they built

In Mr. Starring’s 8th grade Robotics class, students built their own robots from robotics kits to face off in battles. In addition to the physical building of robots, the class offers a hands-on opportunity for students to learn basic coding. Throughout this semester, students have competed in various challenges with their robots, including “battle bots” in which two students pit their robots against each other with the objective to get the other robot out of the square or disabled for more than 7 seconds. These battles have made students get creative with their robots. Some have tried adding weight or more driving motors, or even building a robotic arm for dismantling competitors in the ring to give their robots an advantage. Next semester, the robotics class will be open for 6th and 7th graders.
